v South Woodham (away) 7th October 2007

Under 16's 7 South Woodham 8

Essex League Div 1

Woods start league campaign with a loss, by guest reporter Georgina.

South Woodham started strongly scoring a try within the first 5 minutes from an overlap, luckily for Brentwood the conversion attempt, and that is just what it was an attempt, was missed. So, 5-0 at a very early stage.

After about 20 minutes of “battle” another score, this time from Brentwood. Starting with a run from James via Sam M concluding with Jake going over the line, under the posts. Charlie converted. 5-7 Brentwood.

Towards the end of the first half Brentwood conceded a penalty kick, spectators on the touch were at a loss to why, one suggestion was that the ref was unhappy that Brentwood was in the lead!! South Woodham slotted the kick, half time 8-7 South Woodham.

At the start of the second half and for about 10 minutes the ball was in South Woodham's half and it looked like we would make a quick recovery, but strong defence, and a few tiny errors from our boys ended with no points scored.

The game continued in this vane, with some good surges of play from Brentwood, some lovely passing lines and good targeted kicks to touch, but all to no avail. The score stayed at 8-7.

5 Minutes from the final whistle, Brentwood were camped on South Woodham’s 5 metre line, with scrum after scrum, the ball was held up by South Woodham and then an unlucky knock on over the line, allowed South Woodham to kick to touch and the end of the game.

Personally I think the boys played a brilliant game of rugby, they tried hard, did their best, learnt a lot and are all extremely good looking, with wonderful parents!!
